Unicorn Mobile Cell Phone Holder FREE Crochet Pattern

It took a while for me to create a first creature for my basic Mobile/Cell Phone Holder Pattern which I published back in February 2018 but here it is! The Unicorn Mobile Cell Phone Holder FREE Crochet Pattern is now ready and published below.

I’m sharing the written version of the pattern with you completely FREE here on my blog and of course remember that there is a full Phone Holder Video Tutorial for the holder base on my youtube channel.

If you are not a fan of Free Crochet Patterns because there are adverts and affiliate links everywhere then I’ve prepared somethings special for you. I’ve created an ADVERT FREE PDF PATTERN that has following features:

  1. 2 for 1! Comes in 2 version for the price of one! One version is with no photos to keep your printing environmentally friendly (less ink and paper). Second version is with FULL PHOTO TUTORIAL for an Unicorn part of the pattern which is NOT available with this free version (sorry guy it takes absolutely ages to create and edit photo tutorial so had to put it in a paid version).
  2. You get a printable PFD version of Unicorn Eyes and Nostrils template which is place on A4 size paper. When you print it out it will be the same size as what my Unicorn has 🙂
  3. The Paid version includes modifications to the base pattern to help you see exactly where to sew on the ears and horn. Also exact rows and stitches are given where to glue on the eyes and nostrils.

My phone holder is designed to be used in 2 positions. One is more upright if you have the holder in front of your face:

Second one is more tilted for when you have the holder on your lap or lower table:

INSTRUCTIONS FOR UNICORN ADD ON CROCHET PATTERN

EARS (Make 2):

With Color A (white) and 8 mm hook make 4 ch.
1) Sc in next 2 ch, 3 sc in last ch, continue making stitches on the other side of the chain in the remaining loops: sc in next 2 loops and turn. (7 sc)
2) Sl st in next 3 sts, <sc, picot, sc> all in next st, sl st in last 3 sts. (8 sts).

Fasten off leaving longer end. Use the tail to sew on the ears later on.

Thread around 48 inches of the Yarn B, Color B (silver) on the needle and start making overcast stitches in the middle of the ear. Be careful to make stitches just over the front surface of the stitches so the silver thread is not visible on the back of the ear. Start at the bottom of the ear, inserting the needle in between the top loops of the stitches, leaving them out. This will create a natural edge for the ear.
Start making stitches of around 1 cm (3/8 in) and start gradually decreasing the stiches when going up the ear. This will curl the ear a bit more and will give it a nice half-moon shape.

Sew on the ears:

Using the ending tail, sew on the ears to the top side of the holder. Start by making overcast sts on the side of the ear, go around the front, another side and the back of the ear.
Weave in remaining ends inside the holder.

HORN:

With Yarn B, Color C and 4 mm hook make a magic ring (check out my magic ring tutorial) or make 2 ch and work all stitches in 2nd ch from the hook.
1) 6 sc in a magic ring. (6 sc)
2) Sc in each sc. (6 sc)
3) Sc in each sc. (6 sc)
Tighten the ring and weave in the starting end at this point.
4) [Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] x2. (8 sc)
5) Sc in each sc. (8 sc)
6) Sc in each st. (8 sc)
7) [Sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] x2. (10 sc)
8) Sc in each sc. (10 sc)
9) Sc in each st. (10 sc)
10) [Sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] x2. (12 sc)
11) Sc in each sc. (12 sc)
12) Sc in each st. (12 sc)
13) [Sc in next 5sts, 2 sc in next st] x2. (14 sc)
14) Sc in each sc. (14 sc)
15) Sc in each st. (14 sc)
16) [Sc in next 6 sts, 2 sc in next st] x2. (16 sc)
17) Sc in each sc. (16 sc)
18) Sc in each st. (16 sc)
19) [Sc in next 7 sts, 2 sc in next st] x2. (18 sc)
20) Sc in each sc. (18 sc)
21) Sc in each st. (18 sc)
22) Sc in each st. (18 sc

Fasten off leaving longer end.

Sewing on the horn:

Step 1: Stuff the horn with a polyester filling just enough to make it stand, be careful to not overfill it so the stuffing doesn’t show through.

Step 2: Position the horn on the top of the holder, in the middle of the ears.

Step 3: Using ending tail make overcast sts around the bottom of the horn (going through top loops of the sts from the last row) and catching a surface of the holder sts very close to it. Weave in remaining ends inside the holder.

Eyes & Nostrils:
If you purchase the paid version of the pattern I’ve provided an exact facial features I made. It includes the instruction on how to use the template too. The eyes can be used both for happy and sleepy expression.

Alternatively, you can use black DK size yarn or embroidery thread to sew on your own eyes and nostrils.

MANE:

Let your imagination go when creating the mane. There is so many possibilities. Few options below:
1) Use Lion Brand Hometown USA in white, Las Vegas Gold (170) or Dallas Grey (149). Cut out strings of around 13 cm (5 in) long. Thread each string through the gaps between sts using crochet hook so there is same length on both sides and tie a knot. Repeat this sever times in the sts around the horn and at the back. Leave the strings as they are or split them into individual stands for a curly look. Go one step further and brush them with hair brush to make them fluffy.
2) Make few crochet ruffles using DK size yarn. Make a long chain and start making 3 hdc or 3 dc in each ch st, curling it up while you make more sts. Sew them on.
3) Make little crochet flowers or use fabric flowers and sew them on around the horn and at back.
4) Glue on some crystals or beads.
5) Use long piece of gold fabric, make it into a ruffle by sewing it at the bottom and sew it on.
6) Buy ready-made ruffle satin trimming and sew it on.
7) Use any type ribbon (best ones are with wires on each side) and make it in to a ruffle while you sew it on.

To make the holder even prettier make little stars or hearts and sew them on to the back or just glue on some flat back crystals.
