Another day, another Free Crochet Flower Pattern as promised! This time I’ve prepared for you – Free Crochet Primrose Pattern. (Here you can find out more about Free Crochet flower pattern a day challenge I’ve set for myself).
I have a large stash of yarn but couldn’t find anything appropriate at first, I’ve tried 2 color combinations before I’ve found the perfect yarn colors. Unfortunately I mostly use chunky yarn so my crochet primrose flower turned out massive (around 9cm). I’ve used Robin chunky yarn. For the middle I’ve used Sunflower (075) color and for petals I’ve used Cream (041). If you have any 2ply yarn I would recommend using that instead if you would like to make a smaller flower. I used 4.5mm hook to achieve tighter tension.

Free Crochet Primrose Flower Pattern

(UK link)Start with a magic ring as shown on the picture below, all stitches in the first round will be made around the magic ring.
Crochet Primrose Flower Pattern – ROUND 1)
Work all the stitches of this round into a magic ring/magic circle. Check out my MAGIC RING TUTORIAL here.
Step 1. Make 3 chains
Step 2. Make 1 dc (by going around magic ring) and then make another 3 ch.
Step 3. Slip Stitch around the magic ring to finish off the petal.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 four more times to achieve 5 petals in total.
Now you will notice that stitches will not always ‘go’ as you want them with magic ring, but don’t worry, all you need to do is ‘push’ them together while slightly pulling the loose end of the ring.
That’s how it looks after pulling the stitches together, much better!
Now here is the first round of the Crochet Primrose pattern, I guess this can be used as a simple flower on it’s own, another BONUS 🙂
Crochet Primrose Flower Pattern – ROUND 2)
Join the cream color.
Step 1. Sl st in BACK LOOP of the first chain on the yellow petal and make 4 chains
Step 2. In the back loop of the next stitch make 1 treble stitch.
Step 3. In the back loop of the 3rd ch make double treble
Step 4. Make 2ch
Step 5. Make 1 dc in the back loop of dc from the round below.
Step 6. Make another 2 ch and then make a double treble in the back loop of the next chain.
Step 7. Make a treble in the back loop of the next chain.
Step 8. Make 4 ch and slip stitch to the back look of the last chain to finish the petal.
That’s the first petal of Crochet Primrose Pattern finished. Now you can see why we were working the stitches in the back loops only, I didn’t want the yellow flower to disappear completely and leaving the front loop definitely made it more visible.
Repeat steps 1 to 8 of Round 2 four more times so you have 5 petals in total.
Finishing: When you finish last petal, slip stitch back to the first chain when you started off. Fasten off your work. That’s how your Crochet Primrose Flower will probably look like when you finish so don’t think you have done something wrong. Stitches are long and petals wide so the crochet flower needs shaping.
Now that’s better! And it only took me a minute to shape it to look like this.
